Dear Sirs,

As a result of listening to the Broadcast on the Home Service at 8.0 p.m., on Tuesday March 13th. 1951, entitled "The Women's Rebellion", I am prompted to seek your advice regarding the matter broadcast.

Firstly, the portrayal of myself was quite inaccurate, Secondly, the words used in the conversation ( in the early part of the broadcast ) between Mrs Pethick Lawrence and myself were not correct and failed to present the true purport of that conversation, Thirdly, my permission ( nor comments ) concerning the script was not obtained nor even asked by the Author or Producer.

I should be grateful for your comments on my legal standing with regard to any protests which I feel it necessary to make.

Yours faithfully,

Description
An account of the resource
Annie Kenney writes to the John Hilton Bureau at The News of the World to seek legal advice with regards to protesting against the representation she was subjected to in BBC’s radio play 'The Women’s Rebellion' broadcast six days earlier. The programme was scripted by Jill Craigie and aimed to tell the story of the suffragette movement. But Annie saw her portrayal in it as “quite inaccurate” and in other related correspondence her son, Warwick Kenney-Taylor, tells us that it caused his mother a great deal of distress. Annie was not consulted during the making or production of the programme and after she and the Kenney family made their thoughts on the matter clear, the BBC pulled the play and apologised to Annie.
